Pickles Da Clown has many Faces...Meet her creator...
Barbara is the creator of Pickles Da Clown. She was also known as The Puppetlady for many years. She has been entertaining children since the age of thirteen...just over thirty years. She is an accomplished seamstress thanks to her mother and grandmother showing her how to sew when she was five. She designs and sews all of Pickles, her entire staff, other entertainers, pageant clients and circus clients.
Barbara was born, the youngest of six children, and raised in Middletown, NY located in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley. At the age of thirteen Barbara realized how much she cared about children. She became involved with puppets, acting and singing through church. She has taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, directed Children's Choir, Drama, Puppet and Clown Ministries. In high school, Barbara was in several school productions including The Sound of Music. She also made most of the costumes for Once Upon A Mattress during her Senior year in high school. Barbara has also written several plays and skits over the years for church productions. Her comedy icebreaker skits were always a hit at the women's retreats for her church in NY. She came up with a fractured fairytale that was completely scripted in rhyme. It left the ladies with tears running down their cheeks from laughing so hard.
In 1995 Barbara got involved with directing a puppet ministry. In 1996 she had the chance to take classes with veteran Muppet builder, David Pannabecker. She started her own puppet company, Puppetlady Productions, and proceeded to sell hundreds of puppets around the world. She also directed a traveling puppet ministry, Promise Ministries Crusaders, with teens from three churches in Hudson Valley area involved. Her team traveled throughout Orange, Dutchess and Ulster counties, to mention a few, with rave reviews.
Barbara has one son, Jason, 26. Jason is a special effects makeup artist, actor, independent filmmaker and contractor. He has created special effects props and make up for NYU film students. He hopes to one day be recognized for his work and end up in a major motion picture. Jason lives in Warwick, NY.
In the summer of 2008, Barbara moved to Rock Hill, SC. Barbara was the director for Hands of God Puppet Theater at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, 2008-2011. Barbara has also taught classes for One Way Street , Inc. at their Regional Puppet Festivals, Westminster Academy of Arts in Rock Hill, SC and Westminster Catawba Christian School Summer Care Program. Barbara is well-known around the Carolina's (and beyond) for her Pickles Da Clown character and extreme balloon twisting skills.
Barbara is renowned to her friends as outspoken, fearless, quick witted, artistic and a wee bit eccentric. Pulling all of these quirky virtues together, along with her love for children she created Pickles Da Clown and a cast of other wacky characters. Friends call her the female version of Mr. Rogers because of her nurturing nature. Barbara also has a big heart for animals. One of her aunts once called her Snow White because she was talking to a cat and it seemed to be answering her back. She owns two very intelligent, well trained cats that sit on command. Her husband never knows what crazy creation Barbara will come up with next.
Barbara lost her father (and biggest fan) suddenly in July 2010. Her father was a great inspiration to her growing up. She inherited his sense of humor, love for working with children and talent of constructive ingenuity. Barbara has a winning spirit of determination and passion for children. Barbara has a special place in her heart for children with special needs.
A friend once said she would like to spend a day inside of Barbara's mind...to which Barbara replied, "Look out, here come the men in white to haul you away!"
Barbara is certified through SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) with a clean background check!
Pickles Da Clown/Barbara Emery is a proud member of World Clown Association and is fully insured through Hampson Mowrer Kreitz Agency.
Pickles Da Clown is not your typical, average clown...she is unique! Her personality glows from the inside out! Pickles is an AWESOME balloon twister, a HILARIOUS magician and has a HUGE heart for children of ALL ages! Every place that Pickles goes...EVERYONE becomes an instant fan! Pickles is available for birthday parties, restaurants, church services, fairs, festivals, corporate and school events...anywhere you need entertainment...Pickles can be there!
"Pickles has it all. Stage presence, artistic ability and puts everything she has into what she does. She got a room full of 300 people to their feet laughing in about 2 minutes. She doesn't just blow up balloons. These are creations of art. Who makes a princess balloon or Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? She does. I don't think there was anything she can't do. And she was just awesome. Kids LOVE her and that is an understatement."

Even though Pickles Da Clown sure is an adorable clown...perhaps your child isn't really into clowns! Here's a dandy solution! Pickles alter ego Miss B the Marvelous Magician can come in her place!
Miss B is a funky, funny, outgoing performer (well, it's just Pickles Da Clown without all the clown make up!). She will come to your party in place of Pickles and perform amazing, comedy magic and twist the most AWESOME balloons you have ever seen!
The same party packages on the Birthday Party page apply. When booking just ask for Miss B in place of Pickles...don't worry you won't hurt Pickles feelings! The only booking issue there may be...Pickles is the most requested children's entertainer...if you want to book Miss B she may not be able to fulfill your request due to bookings as Pickles. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to get into Pickles make up and costume...the costume change can take up to 90 minutes. Please keep that in mind when booking.
