The fans have spoken...Pickles IS America's MOST Beautiful Clown!

All About Us

Barbara Emery-Willard

Barbara is the creator of Pickles Da Clown. She is also known as The Puppetlady and Balloon Chick. She has been entertaining children for thirty years. She is an accomplished seamstress thanks to her mother and grandmother showing her how to sew when she was five. She designs and sews all of Pickles costumes. Barbara was born, the youngest of six children, and raised in Middletown, NY located in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley. At the age of thirteen Barbara realized how much she cared about children. She became involved with puppets, acting and singing through church. She has taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, directed Children's Choir, Drama, Puppet and Clown Ministries. In high school, Barbara was in several school productions including The Sound of Music. She also made most of the costumes for Once Upon A Mattress. She designs and sews all of Pickles costumes. Barbara has also written several plays and skits over the years for church productions. Her comedy icebreaker skits were always a hit at the women's retreats for her church in NY. She came up with a fractured fairytale that was completely scripted in rhyme. It left the ladies with tears running down their cheeks from laughing so hard.

In 1995 Barbara got involved with directing a puppet ministry. In 1996 she had the chance to take classes with veteran Muppet builder, David Pannabecker.  She started her own puppet company, Puppetlady Productions, and proceeded to sell hundreds of puppets around the world. She also directed a traveling puppet ministry, Promise Ministries Crusaders, with teens from three churches in Hudson Valley area involved. Her team traveled throughout Orange, Dutchess and Ulster counties, to mention a few, with rave reviews.

Barbara has one son from a previous marriage. Jason, 23, is a special effects makeup artist and independent filmmaker.  He has created special effects props and make up for NYU film students. He hopes to one day be recognized for his work and end up in a major motion picture.

In 2003 Barbara married her second husband, Jack. They met through a Christian radio station where Jack was an announcer. Barbara kept calling in requests and finally Jack asked her out to dinner...the rest is history. In the summer of 2008, Barbara and Jack moved to Rock Hill, SC. Barbara is the director for Hands of God Puppet Theater at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill. Barbara has also taught classes for One Way Street , Inc. at their Regional Puppet Festival.

Barbara is renowned to her friends as outspoken, fearless, quick witted, artistic and a wee bit eccentric. Pulling all of these quirky virtues together, along with her love for children she created Pickles Da Clown.  Jack calls her the female version of Mr. Rogers because of her nurturing nature.

A friend once said she would like to spend a day inside Barbara's mind...to which Barbara replied, "look out...here come the men in white to haul you away!".

Jack Willard

Jack is the manager for Pickles Da Clown and husband to Barbara The Puppetlady. He comes from a background in radio broadcasting. He was a radio personality in New York State for over twenty-five years. In the early '80's Jack was employed by the legendary Cousin Brucie.  Jack has emceed concerts, interviewed celebrities and also worked as a Peace Officer for the City of New York.

Jack's role in Pickles Da Clown Entertainment is to present Pickles and her creator Barbara The Puppetlady to as vast an audience as possible. When he studied the reaction on children's faces as they approached Pickles, he knew he had found his passion. He has never seen a clown so beautiful and in sync with the mind of children. Pickles loves children and they love her.

Jack feels that the sky is the limit because he and Pickles have such a blast appearing at fairs and festivals. He provides Pickles with candy and balloons all while making sure everyone stays safe. Jack's goal is to expand Pickles availability into corporate events, hotels, cruise ships and television. He feels Barbara has what it takes to produce a wonderful show for children due to her heart for puppet ministry and love for Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music.

Jack was born in NYC, but lived most of his life in New York's Hudson Valley. He lived in Los Angeles, CA for a year back in 1979 and appeared in the Kristy Mc Nichol movie, Blinded By The Light. Jack has two children from a previous marriage. Kayleigh, 23, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, NY in May 2009. She is currently student teaching elementary school through December 2009. His son, Kory, 22, is a huge Yankee fan like his dad. Kory plays bass guitar, piano and listens to classic rock with The Who at the top of his list of favorites. Kory's passion for baseball has inspired him to seek out attending Umpire School.

Jack always wanted to be rich and famous...but he decided to marry Barbara instead. (Just kidding!)
